What Laser Engraving Actually Is

Printing puts something onto a surface. Engraving takes something away from it. A focused beam removes or transforms the top layer of the material itself, so the finished mark sits below the original surface rather than on top of it.

That distinction is the whole durability argument. There is no ink film to lose adhesion, no coating to chip at the edges, and no layer for a commercial dishwasher to work loose over a few hundred cycles. The logo lasts as long as the drinkware does.

The trade-off is color. Engraving gives you one tone — whatever the material looks like underneath. If your mark needs to match a Pantone or carry a photograph, that is UV rotary printing territory. If it is a clean logo that has to survive a restaurant rack, engraving wins outright.

Two Lasers, Two Very Different Marks

Most facilities run one laser and make every job fit it. We run both types in-house, which means the machine gets chosen to suit your substrate instead of the other way round.

Fiber Laser

Cuts through powder coat and anodizing to expose the bare stainless underneath. The result is a bright metal mark with hard, legible edges — the look most people picture on a stainless tumbler.

CO2 Laser

Powder-coated or bare. The fiber laser lifts the coating to reveal steel, giving a permanent two-tone mark that survives commercial washing.

Spirits, wine, and custom glass bottles engraved directly, with no label to peel or reprint.

Engraving or Printing? Here Is the Honest Answer

We run both methods, so we have no reason to push you toward one. The decision comes down to what the mark has to do.

Choose engraving when

  • The logo is one color and clean
  • The item goes into commercial service and gets washed constantly
  • You want the mark to outlive the warranty conversation entirely
  • A subtle, premium finish suits the brand better than full color

Choose UV printing when

  • The art is multi-color, photographic, or gradient
  • Pantone accuracy matters to the brand team
  • The piece is retail or shelf-facing and needs to catch an eye
  • You need the full artwork wrapped around the body

Same Steps on Every Job

1. Art review

Every file gets opened and checked by a person. Engraving needs clean vector paths, so we convert type to outlines and flag anything too fine to hold at size before it becomes a problem on the floor.

2. Digital mockup

You see the mark placed on your actual item, at the actual size, and approve it before we run anything.

3. Test piece

Settings get dialed in on a sample from your own run. Coating thickness varies between suppliers and even between batches, so we confirm depth and contrast on the real material rather than assuming.

4. Production

The full run is engraved in-house in Jupiter. Nothing is outsourced, so nothing sits in someone else's queue.

5. Inspection and pack

Every piece is checked for depth, placement, and finish consistency before it is packed and shipped.

Minimums

50 pieces. Most runs land between 500 and 3,000, and capacity is over 10,000 pieces a week.

Lead time

7 to 10 business days from art approval. Tell us your in-hands date and we will tell you honestly whether it is achievable.

Laser Engraving FAQ

Will a laser engraved logo come off in a commercial dishwasher?

No. The mark is cut into the material rather than applied to it, so there is no layer for detergent, heat, or rack abrasion to work loose. It is the right choice for restaurants, hotels, and any venue washing the same glass hundreds of times a year.

What color will my engraved logo be?

Whatever the material gives you. On powder-coated stainless the fiber laser exposes bright steel, so you get a metallic mark against the coating color. On glass the CO2 laser produces a frosted white finish. Engraving is a single tone by nature — if you need brand colors, UV printing is the method that delivers them.

Can you engrave drinkware we already own?

Yes. Ship us stock from any brand and we will engrave it. We verify fitment on a sample first, because an item that does not seat correctly in the fixture will not mark consistently, and we would rather find that out on one piece than on your whole order.

What is the minimum order?

50 pieces. There are no art fees or setup charges on top, so a small run does not get penalized the way it does with plate-based methods.

Do you engrave pour lines on glassware?

Yes. Etched pour lines are a standard request from venues managing beverage cost, and the mark is permanent so the line stays accurate for the life of the glass.

Can you rescue an order another decorator got wrong?

Often, yes. Send photos and tell us what happened. If the item can be re-run or the mark corrected we will tell you plainly, and if it cannot we will say that too rather than take the job.
